Climate Action Monash – Putting Knowledge into Action!
Climate Action Monash is an open on-campus climate action group designed to inspire students and staff to put knowledge into action! Why Climate Action?
It is no longer disputed by the vast majority of scientists, politicians, academics and civil society that climate change is happening. The debate is more so now about what to do about it, and what targets should be aimed for.
Responding to the climate emergency requires action at all levels of government and this response will have to be fought for by people inside as well as outside of major institutions.
Public pressure is simply the fastest way to force politicians to act.
As Rudd’s backflip on the Emissions Trading Scheme shows, which means Australia will delay any significant legislative response to climate change till 2013, or never if the Liberal Party led by Tony Abbott wins the next election, our politicians are not serious about securing the safety of our species and the life of many others on Earth.
Climate action can take many forms but it is primarily about engaging in the politics of climate change in order to improve policy and therefore mitigate the predicated impacts of climate change on biodiversity and social stability.
Climate Action Monash is but one vehicle of resistance to inaction, providing a forum for students and other supporters to project their voices and views on this climate emergency.
